Ive got a solar panel question?

Ok so i was wondering if it were possible to take a 12v solar panel and hook it to a 7.2v battery would it charge it or would not do anything I need answers quick thanks people.

    yes it will charge it. You need a volt meter to make sure you don’t over charge the battery.

    I’ve successfully resurrected two 14.4 volt cordless drill batteries, a 7.2 volt cordless drill battery and several Versatile batteries using the easy resurrection method. It is simply amazing when the meter shows life in them again.

    As soon as you connect a 12V panel to a 7.2V battery, the voltage will drop, and yes, the battery should charge. If the panel is large, there is danger of overcharging. I’m assuming this is a NiCd or NiMH battery pack. If it starts to get warm, it’s being overcharged.

    The constant current of a solar panel is not particularly good for charging NiMH, so you may not get a full charge, but will get something.

    All this assumes that there are no other charging electronics embedded on the battery pack.
