I want to do a science project where I create my own solar panels out of different materials to see which one will produce the greatest amount of energy. Is this a realistic topic if it has to be done before Thanksgiving? If so, how do I make the solar panels? How do I measure/convert the energy? Please help!

Basically, I wanted to make a "portable charger". I was planning to connect a solar panel to an English socket, and from there be able to plug any charger, a phone charger for example, and charge my phone from the solar energy.
I have tried connecting the positive to the "live", and the negative to the "neutral". ( I was told the neutral was negative, and the live was the positive) Sadly, this did not work.
I would like to know, can it actually be possible to connect a small solar panel to a socket? If so, how?
Thanks

I understand if I buy a 3 bank battery charger, I can just plug it into the wall and run it off of 120 volt and it will charge my three new batteries. But what about using the altenator or solar power to charge the batteries? Can I have the battery charger hooked up to run off of 120v, solar power, AND the altenator? Or do I need a seperate battery charger for the solar panels and altenator?
I do live aboard. All three batteries are the same. Can I hook up a battery charger, the altenator, AND a 60 watt solar panel to these batteries. The idea is to be charging while hooked up to shore power, while running the engine, AND while sailing using the solar panel.

I was trying to figure out how solar panels work today and I found that electrons get displaced in 2 layers of a solar panel by photons coming from the sun to create power. If the electrons come from the solar panel and go into the electrical grid, how are they replaced in the solar panel? Wouldn’t the solar panel eventually lose all of its electrons and stop working? Electrons have mass, so wouldn’t the solar panel slowly deteriorate?
I think solar energy is awesome and I really want to know how it works. Any help in enlightening me on this subject would great, thanks!

I have a solar panel that puts out 100v, .5 amps in full sun. Before I thought it would charge a 12v battery without a solar charger but then I talked to someone and they said that it was wasting a lot of power and could potentially hurt the battery. A second part to this question is what happens if I put it on a 72v battery without a controller. Thanks!
Hmm. The answers are fairly interesting. The voltage of the solar panel drops to the voltage of the battery when I connect it because of the very little amps the solar panel has. Thanks for the answers!

i am moving to sierra leone, the poorest country in the world. there will be no electricity where i will be. if i buy a 12v solar charger and a 12v (we’ll say flourescent) light capable of creating as many lumens as a 60w light bulb, how many hours of light can i provide each night (assuming 14 hours of sunlight)? any additional suggestions for off the grid power are very welcome.

I have heard a lot about solar panels and I want to know how these solar panels works and is it really possible to generate electricity using solar panels. And what is the cost of getting a solar panel installed?
